A 58mm rim profile has been in Zipp’s product line ever since we designed the first deep-section carbon rims back in the early ‘90s. Today, the 404 continues to rack up varied results like stage wins from sprinter Thor Hushovd and rouleur Nicki Sørensen at the 2009 Tour de France, and Craig Alexander’s 2008 victory in Kona. From your local criterium to l’Alpe d’Huez, the 404 is a threat to win any race on any terrain.
The current version of the 404 is faster than ever with the third generation of our patented ABLC dimpling pattern and a fully toroidal rim shape derived from over 100 hours of wind tunnel testing. The toroidal profile also offers the benefits of added stiffness, due to a slight widening of the rim, and better braking with an angled brake track.
Like all our tubular rims, the 404 is built with our Carbon Bridge technology that dramatically increases impact resistance with a Kevlar thread running perpendicular to the carbon laminate. Between those layers of carbon lies our VCLC system, which uses a shock-absorbing material to reduce vibration by 10% and keep your wheels glued to the pavement under all conditions.
