WEEKLY SHOP RIDES
SATURDAY
Prahran Chapel St.
The Freedom Machine Chapel Street store ride runs each Saturday morning and is split into two sections. The first section of the ride leaves the store at 6:00 and finishes at 8:00, the first part of the ride is roughly 50km in length and involves some hills. The ride then makes a stop off at the Chapel St. store at 8:00. The second part of the ride departs from the Chapel St. store at 8:00. This ride is a great way to follow on from the pack orientation ride. The ride usually runs down to Black Rock then through to Port Melbourne then back to the Prahran store by 10:00. The focus of this ride is to ride as a group and build cycle fitness. The TFM road ride is run by staff member Mal Hill, if you are interested in joining in please drop in and see us or email us as the ride route can change on occasions. Please send emails to Mal at prahran@freedommachine.com.au
Brighton North Rd.
Each Saturday morning (weather pending), why not join the TFM crew for an early morning jaunt down to Mordiallic and back. If you're comfortable riding in a pack, averaging around 30Kph, and don't mind a social coffee at the end, then come along. The ride departs at 7:00am sharp from the corner of North Rd and Beach Rd. Ask Wade or Emi (Brighton store) for further details.
Port Melbourne Bay St.
This ride leaves the Port Melbourne store at 8.00am every Saturday, weather dependant and is a quick ride to Mordialloc and return covering the distance in just under 2 hours followed by coffee at Dalmatino's there after.
SUNDAY
Prahran Chapel St.
The original Freedom Machine ride leaves the Prahran store at 8.10am every Sunday, weather permitting and high tails it down to Frankston and back followed by the mandatory coffee in Fitzroy St. to discuss who failed, who succeeded and hatch plans for the following week.
IRREGULAR RIDES
Pack Orientation Ride
The Freedom Machine runs a free training ride once a month, from the Prahran store, aimed at teaching the inexperienced how to ride in road packs. The ride is designed to teach the skills necessary to enable you to safely ride in a group. This will involve instruction in signalling and etiquette within the pack, how to correctly hold a wheel and how to communicate at speed. The session is based around the quiet Albert Park lake circuit and is conducted at cruising speed.
The session is usually run the first weekend of each month by Chris 'Cuddles' Newman. If you are interested in attending please come in and leave your details with us or email Chris at prahran@freedommachine.com.au
Mountain Bike Rides
The Chapel Street store runs mountain bike rides every 6 weeks or so. These rides change in location each time. The rides usually go for about 2-4 hours and vary in difficulty from simple trails on flat terrain needing a minimum level of fitness and a basic mountain bike to rocky winding single track with lots of hill climbs requiring a good level of skill and fitness on the bike along with a good quality mountain bike.
There are many stops during the ride to allow slower riders to rejoin the group. Often with bigger groups the ride is divided into a beginners group and an advanced group so everyone can have fun on the day. A mountain bike in good working order with knobby tyres and working suspension is an absolute requirement. For more info e-mail Darius or Grant on prahran@freedommachine.com.au
